Skinning and animation - help offer

I'm currently writing an XNA importer for the output this plugin provides from Blender.

So far I can import static meshes and I can see how I can import simple animation such as translation and rotation of blender objects from the currently output collada file.

What I'd like to do is export armatures and their links to vertex groups so that I can animate meshes with arms etc that then deform the mesh. I guess this is not implemented yet so am wondering if any progress has been made to do this?

I've checked out the SVN code and it seems it's been a while since an update but I am willing to contribute code to make this happen. I've got Blender set up with the winpdb debugger so I can step through the code and could probably do with a few pointers as to the architecture and the best place to implement the vertex grouping code.

Am I ok to hack on this and play around?
